Navidad en Norwich

¡Hola chicos!

Hi guys!

¡¡¡¡FELIZ NAVIDAD!!!!

Este año no hemos podido pasarnos por España a celebrar la Navidad con nuestra familia y amigos... pero no por eso hemos dejado de celebrar Nochebuena y Navidad. De hecho, hemos intentado unir costumbres de la familia de uno, de la familia de otro... y mezclarlas un poco con las tradiciones inglesas. Por aquí os dejamos unas fotitos de estos dos días.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

This year we have not been able to go back to Spain to spend these special days with family and friends... but there is no reason to stop celebrating Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! In fact, we have tried to join our families customs and mix them with the proper amount of English tradition. We let you here with some explanatory photos of these two days.

Para empezar la Nochebuena unos bomboncitos de foie y unos ricos langostinos

For Christmas Eve starters Foie Bombons and tasty prawns

 Y de plato fuerte un trozo de cordero, que el ternasco anda escaso por aquí ;)

And for the main: Roasted Lamb, a bit older than the one we are used to... ;)

Y de postre unos ricos turrones, lo clásico: duro, blanco y suchard!

And for dessert the classic turron: hard, soft and Suchard!

Y como este año hemos sido buenos Papá Noel trajo muchoooos regalos :)

And as we have been good Santa Claus brought lots of presents :)

El menú de hoy un poco más comedido, bombones de salmón y vieiras gratinadas.

Todays menu a bit lighter, salmon bombons and gratin scallop.

 Como plato principal un clásico inglés... ¡Pavo relleno! Como sólo era para dos hemos cocinado medio pavo (del que ha sobrado más de la mitad jejeje)

And for main an English classic... Roasted turkey! It was only for the two of us, so we have cooked half of a turkey (and eventhough we have eaten only half, :)

Y de postre otro British must: ¡Pudding de Navidad! No nos ha motivado mucho, pero el acompañamiento, una espcie de crema al cognac, estaba... mmm.. de muerte!!!

And for dessert another British must: Christmas pudding!! It was not that good, but the side, a kind of cognac cream, was...mmm.. awesome!!

Y ya nos despedimos preparándonos para el Año Nuevo, que esperamos celebrar con Ignacio y Patri. Esperamos que hayáis pasado una muy Feliz Navidad!!

And now is time to say goodbay, getting ready to celebrate New Year´s Eve with Ignacio and Patri.

Christmas at London

¡Hola chicos!

Hi everybody!

Este fin de semana hemos vuelto a acercarnos a Londres, esta vez para disfrutar del Museo Británico y de las luces navideñas que decoran la ciudad. Podríamos decir que este sábado no sólo hemos estado en Londres, si no también en Grecia, Egipto, Persia... porque en el museo lo tienen TODO, en mayúsculas sí, el Partenón entero, la piedra roseta, cientos de momias y sarcófagos... aunque de muestra aquí os dejamos sólo a Jorge al lado de una armadura sumará. Si queréis ver el resto, ya sabéis, un viajecito a Londres y podréis verlo todo en un sólo día :)

This weekend we have gone again to London, this time to enjoy the British Museum and the Christmas light decoration of the city. We could say that this saturday we have been, not only in London, but also in Greece, Egipt, Persia... because you can find EVERYTHING there in the Museum, yes, in capital letters. The full Partenon, the roseta stone, hundreds of mummies.... But here we will only show you Jorge just next to a samurai armor. If you wanna see the rest, you already know the way: a ticket to London a you will see everything within one day :)

Después nos fuimos a ver el Londres navideño, Trafalgar square con su árbol gigante bastante cutrecillo y un belén en el que no sabes quién es la Virgen y quién San José... El árbol del Parlamento, mucho más majico y arreglado, Picadilly Street... y no nos pudimos perder una feria navideña en Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland, donde probamos el vino especiado caliente que entraba... vamos menudo peligro! Así iban algunos a las cinco de la tarde... gritando 
"¿Qué queremos? La Navidad! ¿Cuándo la queremos? YA!!" 

After the museum we went to see London at Christmas, the huge tree in Trafalgar square (quite ugly...) with a Nativity set where you could not even know who is Mary and who Joseph... The Christmas tree at the Parliament was much better and nicer, Piccadilly Street... and we could not miss a typical Christmas Market in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland, where we tried the mulled wine... too easy to drink! Quite dangerous! That is why people was quite 'happy' at 5pm shouting: 'What do we want? Christmas! When do we want it? NOW!!'

Visita a Londres con Jorge y Pili

¡Hola chicos!

Hi guys!

Esta semana tenemos una visita especial, Jorge y Pili, los padres de Elena, y nos hemos ido a pasar el sábado a Londres. Hemos aprovechado para visitar un par de cosillas que Jorge aún no había visto como la Catedral de Sant Paul, los almacenes de Harrods y Liberty y la plaza de Trafalgar. Aprovechamos para comer en Chinatown un rico pato pekinés y repasar nuestro chino, y volvimos a ver a gente haciendo cola para comprar Bubble Tea Taiwanés. El día fue estupendo, os dejamos con unas fotillos para daros envidia y que lo disfrutéis con nosotros.

This week we are having a special visit, Jorge and Pili, Elena´s parents are here, and we went last Saturday to visit London. We went to some places that Jorge had still not visited like St. Paul´s Cathedral, Harrods and Liberty shops and Trafalgar Square. We had lunch at Chinatown, a nice Beijing duck and review our Chinese level, and we saw a long queue to buy Taiwanese bubble tea, just like we saw in Taipei. The day was really nice, we will show you some photos for you to enjoy with us.

Durante este mes todo Reino Unido ha conmemorado el final de la primera guerra mundial, y todos los soldados que cayeron durante ella. Para ello se ponen unos poppies (amapolas) en las solapas de las camisas y chaquetas, y están por toda la ciudad y monumentos como podéis ver en una de las primeras fotos. Es bonito que todo un país recuerde un momento tan importante de su historia reciente.

During all this month all United Kingdom has commemorate the end of the first world war. To do it everybody wear poppies in the shirts and jackets, and they also put them all around the city as you can see in one of the first photos. Is really nice to see that a whole country remember such an important moment in his recent history.

Cuando volvimos a Norwich, a eso de las 10 de la noche, nos esperaba una sorpresa que nos dejó cuanto menos perplejos. En la zona de marcha de Norwich (que está entre la estación y nuestra casa) estaban los servicios sanitarios preparados para atender a los borrachos de la noche... pero cual fue nuestra sorpresa al ver que no tenían una ambulancia o dos, sino ¡¡¡¡¡¡DOS AUTOBUSES!!!!!!

When we came back to Norwich, around 10pm, we found a great surprise. We walk by the party street here (between the train station and our home), and we saw that Emergencies service was already there, waiting for the drunk people... but for our surprise, they didn´t have one or two ambulances... they have TWO BUSES!!!!!!!

Remember remember the fifth of November...

¡Hola chicos!

Hi guys!

Esta semana ha sido semana de fuegos artificiales en Reino Unido, ya que hemos celebrado la captura de Guy Fawkes, un conspirador católico que quería volver el parlamento. Día grande en el que todo el mundo lanza fuegos artificiales, cada barrio, cada ayuntamiento... Nosotros fuimos a ver los de Norwich, lanzados desde el castillo de la ciudad y con música acompañándolos. Os dejamos un par de trocitos de dos canciones que seguro os suenan.

This week we have celebrated the Bonfire Night, commemorating the capture of Guy Fawkes, a catholic conspirator who tried to blow up the Parliament. Everybody launch fireworks in every street, and the city hall also prepare a firework parade. We went to enjoy the Norwich fireworks, launched from the Castle and at the rhythm of music. Esta semana ha sido también la primera semana navideña de Norwich, con el encendido de un árbol gigante de Navidad, burro-renos para los niños y grupos cantando villancicos en la calle. Aquí el espíritu navideño llega ya en Noviembre.

During this week they also start the Christmas decoration, with a big Christmas tree, donkey-reindeers for the kids and groups of people singing carols. Here Christmas spirit arrives in November.

El finde que viene iremos a ver el ambiente navideño de Londres. Prometemos fotos :)

Nueva casa y primera visita a un festival de Cerveza

¡Hola chicos!

Hi everybody!

Esta semana venimos con nuestra primera participación en un festival de la cerveza y con fotitos de nuestra casa. Empezamos con las fotos de la casa. Aunque por aquí se llevan mucho las casitas de dos plantas con jardín nosotros nos hemos trasladado a un pisito en el centro. Primero de todo porque aún no disponemos de un coche para movernos, lo cual dificulta vivir en una casita y lo segundo porque el pisito es bastante moderno, está a 2 minutos andando del centro de la ciudad y en la puerta está la parada del bus al trabajo :)

This week we want to show you our first beer festival and our house. We start with some photos of the house. Here is more common to live in a house, with garden and 2 floors, but we decided to start in an apartment in the city center. First of all because we still haven't got a car, and it's quite important when you live outside the city center, and also because the apartment is quite modern and in 2 minutes walking distance to the city center.

Nuestra casa esta dentro de un edificio muy típico, asi que es bastante bonito y pintoresco. Aquí tenéis algunas fotitos.

 La entrada principial. El edifico es el antiguo hospital, del que han respetado la fachada principal.

The main door. The building is the old hospital, they kept the outside, but the inside is new.

Esta semana también hemos salido un poquito y hemos visitado un festival de la cerveza muy peculiar. Dentro de una catedral, desacralizada claro, donde podías encontrar mas de 200 cervezas de diferentes productores locales, lagers, ales, ipas... un poco de todo. Al entrar comprabas tu vaso de pinta e ibas pidiendo por los stands con un bono. Muy interesante, sobre todo por el lugar, y porque la variedad de cervezas y su calidad era considerable. 

This week we also went to the Beer Festival, a really peculiar one, inside a church, of course it was desacralized. There you could find over 200 cask-conditioned Real Ales from Britain's independent brewers, lagers, ales, ipas... At the entrance we bought our glass and we went to the stands to ask for some beers. It was really interesting because of the place and the diferent kinds of beers.

... llegamos a Norwich

¡Hola chicos!

Hi everybody!

Después de 2 semanas casi desconectados del mundo por nuestra falta de internet (parecíamos yonkis del wifi en cada lugar al que íbamos) ¡por fin tenemos internet en casa! Y podemos comenzar con nuestros post semanales (esperamos) de nuestra vida por aqui. 

After 2 weeks without internet (we looked like wifi addicts in any place we went) we finally have internet at home! So now we can start with our semanal posts abour our life in UK.

Estos primeros días han sido bastante ajetreados, comprando cositas para la casa, paseando y descubriendo lugares de la ciudad... Vamos, no hemos parado, pero nos ha dado tiempo a ver en lineas generales lo que esta bonita ciudad es, una antigua ciudad medieval, llena de bellos rincones, con una iglesia en cada esquina, tiendas que abren de lunes a domingo, y un monton de pubs en los que probar millones de ricas cervezas. 

The first days have been really busy, buying stuff for the house, walking and discovering the city... We already realize how beautiful is this medieval city, with a lot of nice places, where you can find a church in any street, shops that open from monday to sunday and lots of pubs where you can try really nice beers.
